Summertime At GSCS
WAVE Program

Building Bikes & Building Skills with Summer WAVE!
Mr. Ram Talantis and our Summer WAVE interns are hard at work building bikes for GSMS and the progress by Day 3 is already impressive!
With training from a professional bike builder, students are gaining real-world skills as they work toward assembling 60 bikes. And that’s not all—if time allows, the team is also planning to construct a pizza oven for the school’s outdoor kitchen area!
This project is a perfect example of experiential learning, teamwork, and community impact in motion.

GSHS Summer WAVE Students Celebrate World Sea Turtle Day with Hands-On Learning
Students in Mrs. Krista Fleming’s Summer WAVE Program at Gulf Shores High School marked World Sea Turtle Day by engaging in a meaningful, hands-on activity. They located, measured, and processed a mock sea turtle nest to better understand the care and protection needed for this endangered species.
Thanks to the support of Debbie Harbin, Ann Godfrey, and Lauren Thomas from Share the Beach, students learned about important conservation practices—like leaving only footprints on the sand, filling in holes, and keeping bright lights off the beach to protect nesting turtles.
The day continued with a tour of the Gulf State Park Pier, where students took sand and water samples to test for microplastics and used slush guns to explore the tiny invertebrates living in the sand.
This immersive experience deepened students’ connection to coastal ecosystems and highlighted the importance of protecting our natural resources.

Having a great time wrapping up GSCS Fine Arts Camp!
