Board Members




Kevin Corcoran graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a Bachelor’s of Science in Marketing. He also attended Northern Kentucky University’s Salmon P. Chase College of Law. After moving to Alabama in 1996, he joined RE/MAX of Gulf Shores in 1999 and purchased the franchise in June of 2004, where he and his wife, Domini, are co-owners.
Kevin has over 10 years of experience serving on a board of education during which time he held the office of President, Vice President and Secretary.  He served as the Chairman of the Baldwin County Community Advisory Task Force for Education as well as the Co-Chairman of the Island Wide Task Force for Education. Kevin’s engagement in the community has allowed him to serve on numerous Boards of Directors including serving as Chairman for the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber, President of the Gulf Coast Athletic Club and Dolphin Athletics Club. Kevin spent eight years providing play-by-play for the Gulf Shores High School Dolphins football team and the last two as the Public Address announcer at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium for GSHS home football games. As a Father/Dad to eight children who all attended public school in Gulf Shores, he has been an active advocate for public education for decades. 

 


Dr. Nichole (Nicky) Gotschall has enjoyed a wonderful career in post-secondary education.  As an academic administrator, Nicky chaired the Department of Developmental Studies at Sullivan University from 2002 to 2007. There, she was the inaugural recipient of the Above and Beyond Award, Sullivan’s Faculty Member of the Quarter Award. She joined Columbia Southern University in 2007 and served in various positions including the chair of the Department of General Education, dean for the College of Arts and Sciences, and dean of the undergraduate programs.  She has also participated in the accreditation reaffirmation process at SACSCOC and DEAC institutions.  
Nicky is also an active member of the Gulf Shores community.  As an advocate for the success of all students, she has served on the GSES Parent Involvement Planning Committee, the School Improvement Leadership Team, and the PTO.  She continues to serve on the GSCS' Light It Up Blue committee.
Dr. Gotschall holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Livingston University, a master’s degree in the art of teaching from the University of West Alabama, and a doctorate in higher education leadership from Walden University.

 

Kelly Walker is a Student Support Specialist for the Georgia Department of Education online school, Georgia Virtual Learning. Mrs. Walker serves as a liaison between schools, parents, and online instructors to accommodate middle and high school students with special needs in order to give the best chance at success in the online classroom. She provides supports to special needs students and online instructors to help raise student achievement. She also creates and administers regular professional development for online instructors regarding special needs students and best teaching practices. Prior to this administrative role, she taught high school science for Georgia Virtual School.  
In her fifteen years as an educator, she has also taught in a traditional classroom. She taught for nine years in the face-to-face classroom working with at-risk students. Some of her roles included leading a team of teachers on a Freshman/Career Academy, mentoring new teachers, coaching volleyball, and developing county-wide science curriculum based on State Standards.
Kelly Walker received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia, and her Master of Arts in Special Education from Piedmont College.

Dale Jernigan earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree from UAB and worked in critical care nursing. Her teaching experience began when she started the first hospital-wide education program at SBRMC, teaching new employees required skills and ensuring continuing education of the medical personnel. Her extensive background also includes Director of Nursing Services and Health Care Consultant. She was a governor’s appointee to the Alabama Board of Nursing for four years, has written two textbooks, and published numerous periodicals on subjects including conflict resolution, mental health, testing, and human resource management.
In 2012, she began teaching at GSHS. She established The Health Science Career Academy at GSHS. She added an emergency medical response program, integrated with the GSFR, and later integrated a dual enrollment EMT course through Coastal Community College. Mrs. Jernigan mentored students and provided learning opportunities to promote success in their chosen medical careers. She also established a certified life-guard course, and trained students to teach CPR in the schools. Every freshman student was certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation by her student CPR instructors. During her time at GSHS, she obtained a grant to become a mental health first aid instructor, and taught students and teachers the basics of managing mental health emergencies. Mrs. Jernigan also collaborated with USA Medical center to provide real life learning experiences through robotic simulation.

 

Frank Malone originally moved to Gulf Shores in 1978 and is a Foley High School Graduate.   He received a BS in Accounting from The University of South Alabama in 1985.  Frank became a CPA with Coopers & Lybrand in Birmingham in 1987, and then was hired to work in Construction Administration Management in Korea, Egypt and the Philippines, and later sold construction equipment at auction throughout Southeast Asia.  In 1996 he moved back home to Gulf Shores and joined the family Real Estate Brokerage firm.  Today he is the broker of the Gulf Shores Office of Bellator Real Estate & Development.  He has served on the Gulf Shores Planning Commission since 2002, President of the Baldwin County Board of Realtors in 2017, and has coached numerous recreation-league soccer teams.  Two of Frank and wife Jennifer’s three kids currently attend Gulf Shores City Schools and his oldest is a Gulf Shores graduate.
