Curriculum & Instruction
The Curriculum and Instruction Department at Gulf Shores City Schools (GSCS) provides leadership in implementing standards-based teaching and assessment throughout the district. Our mission is to increase student access and engagement, close achievement and opportunity gaps, and support every student’s academic growth and long-term success. Department staff coordinate the adoption, development, integration, and implementation of curriculum aligned with rigorous academic standards.
At GSCS, student learning is at the heart of all we do. Through collaboration and shared purpose, we strive to offer all students enriching and engaging learning experiences that reflect and support their diverse learning styles and needs. Our efforts are grounded in four essential domains:
-
Curriculum: What students need to know, understand, and be able to do.
-
Instruction: How we support students in acquiring that knowledge and those skills.
-
Assessment: How students demonstrate what they’ve learned and understood.
-
Professional Development: How we support and grow our educators’ instructional capacity.
Our work is guided by the collective vision, values, and strategic plan of our learning community, along with a strong commitment to continuous improvement. Teachers, administrators, and support staff are united in our pursuit of providing a world-class education to every student. We continuously review and refine our instructional practices and curriculum to ensure our programs are inclusive, relevant, and tailored to meet the needs of all learners.
While our work is comprehensive, much of it falls within the following broad areas:
-
Oversight of all curriculum and instructional initiatives
-
Coordination of local and state testing and assessment programs
-
Management and analysis of instructional data and educational technology
-
Support and development of instructional personnel
-
Oversight of student registration and residency processes
Together, these efforts ensure that every GSCS student is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities needed to succeed—now and in the future.
