Science by the Shore Team Explores Microplastics and Expands Student Scientist Opportunities
The secondary Science by the Shore (SBTS) team spent a productive morning at the Gulf State Park Interpretive Center, learning and planning new initiatives. Led by SBTS Director Krista Fleming, the team conducted hands-on fieldwork, sifting sand for microplastics using proper research data collection methods. The group is committed to creating more authentic, local environmental science opportunities for students to become true scientists in their own backyard!
Gulf Shores Elementary STEAM Team Visits Middle and High Schools to Explore Vertical Learning Opportunities
Teachers from Gulf Shores Elementary School’s STEAM PLT toured GSMS and GSHS to discover how STEAM learning progresses across grade levels. They observed a variety of exciting experiences—many focused on sustainability—including coding, growing hydroponic lettuce and culinary mushrooms, and learning land navigation skills.
This visit sparked great conversations about collaboration across the district, with teachers eager to continue pushing Full STEAM Ahead to provide rich, connected learning opportunities for all students.
