Core Courses

Language Arts 

Learn about real-life heroes! Create heroes from your own imagination! Through reading, writing, and thinking, you will explore the world around you and become a hero yourself!

Mathematics

Through games that reinforce and strengthen mathematics skills, you will have opportunities to demonstrate your knowledge of number manipulation in real-world scenarios.

 

Science

Science 1:
Get ready to investigate energy, force, weather, climate, Earth’s systems, and living organisms. This in-depth exploration will spark scientific curiosity and build a foundation for concepts covered in Comprehensive Science 2.

Science 2:
Explore the foundations of science, including energy, Earth’s changing features and structures, Earth’s history, genetics, heredity, and the organization and interaction of living organisms.

 

Social Studies

U.S. History:
You will discover that history is full of adventure, colorful characters, and complex plots. Each plot is different and highlights an important story from our nation’s past.

Civics:
Explore the rights and responsibilities of United States citizenship and examine the structure and function of federal, state, and local governments. You will learn about geography and economics and the important roles citizens play in their communities.

 

 

Electives and World Language

Orientation To 2D Art

Using the tools, tricks and techniques of professional artists, you will create people and objects that leap off the page. You will start with your sketchbook, and put down your ideas and impressions. You will develop those ideas by using lines, colors, composition and perspective. You will finish with a collection of original artwork that tells the story your way.

Beginning Spanish

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Spanish language and the richness of its diverse cultures. Learn beginning grammar and vocabulary skills to help build basic fluency and language proficiency. Explore the culture of Spanish-speaking countries and apply what you learn through written practice, listening, and speaking exercises. This course provides middle school elective credit and is not eligible for high school transcripts.

Coding

Do you ever wonder how your favorite websites and games are made? This course will inspire you to build your own! You will learn about the technology you use in your day-to-day life. Get an introduction to the basics of computer science and discover how to create and build your very own website using HTML. You will also use the programming language Python to create and problem solve actual computer programs. This course provides middle school elective credit.

Physical Education

Your path to lifelong fitness starts here. You'll set a variety of goals that will guide you toward leading a healthy lifestyle. During your journey, you'll perform daily physical activity, design a personal fitness plan that suits your interests, and keep track of your fitness progress. You'll monitor your exercise and nutrition using a personalized wellness plan.

Independent Student I/II

Independent study is an opportunity for students to explore a specific research topic, hobby, or interest in an independent manner. Students will be required to select their area of interest, develop a learning plan, and develop a product (video, model, research paper, business model, performance, etc.) that demonstrates the learning that has occurred due to the study or practice of this particular area. This class will be graded as satisfactory (passing grade) or unsatisfactory (non-passing grade).

Keyboarding

Using a special online library of software, you will gain typing speed while learning the proper technique to become a keyboarding master. You will also learn business skills to prepare for your future career. This course provides middle school elective credit.

Creative Writing

Creative Writing Elective Grade 8 is a half-year elective course which explores children’s short stories, poetry, and other works of fiction and non-fiction. Through the study of literary works, the student will have multiple opportunities to practice the process of writing. Writing assignments are age appropriate for middle school students.

Journalism

Journalism is an 8th grade half-year elective course that includes newspaper study, newspaper production, news information gathering, proofreading, and journalistic writing.

High School Credit Business Technology Applications

A one-credit foundation course designed to assist students in developing technological proficiencies in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, communications, Internet use, ethics, and careers using technology applications.

High School Credit Spanish I

Listening and speaking skills including understanding and responding to simple directions, expressions of courtesy, and questions related to daily routines; reading and writing skills including words and phrases used in basic situational contexts; beginning understanding of Spanish-speaking culture.

High School Credit Latin I

Introduction to the Latin language and Roman world including influence on cultures of the Western world; basic vocabulary including pronunciation and spelling; translation with emphasis on reading, grammar, and the Roman culture.

High School Credit Mandarin Chinese I

Listening and speaking skills including understanding and responding to simple directions, expressions of courtesy, and questions related to daily routines; reading and writing skills including words and phrases used in basic situational contexts; beginning understanding of Chinese-speaking cultures.

High School Credit German I

Listening and speaking skills including understanding and responding to simple directions, expressions of courtesy, and questions related to daily routines; reading and writing skills including words and phrases used in basic situational contexts; beginning understanding of German-speaking cultures.

High School Credit French I

Listening and speaking skills including understanding and responding to simple directions, expressions of courtesy, and questions related to daily routines; reading and writing skills including words and phrases used in basic situational contexts; beginning understanding of French-speaking cultures.
