Martha Morales

Algebra I, Geometry, and Spanish I

Hello everyone!  My name is Martha Morales and I am very excited to join the Gulf Shores Middle School Dolphin family as your new teacher. I will have the pleasure to guide students in their learning of both Mathematics and the Spanish language. Let me share a little of who I am. I am originally from the beautiful city of Oviedo, Asturias which is in the lush green region of northwestern Spain. Although I was born in Spain, I have a rich multi-cultural background as a result of my mother being a native of Ferriday, Louisiana.  My mother studied in Spain which is where she eventually married and raised me and my four siblings.

My immediate family consists of my wonderful husband of 20 years, and three daughters ages 16, 13, and 12. My husband, Billy Morales, is a family nurse practitioner who is passionate about promoting wellness and is also a professor at the University of West Florida in Pensacola. My hobbies include exercising, gardening, and spending time with my daughters, husband, and all of my family and friends.  On most days I find myself in my very small farm caring for our chickens, ducks, and the tasty veggies that grow so well here. Walks along the beach are a family favorite as well.

In regards to my education, I received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Northwestern State University and Master of Science in Mathematics from McNeese State University both of which are in Louisiana. I have 15 years of teaching experience and have taught subjects ranging from 6th-grade math and up to AP Calculus.  Also, I taught for Louisiana Virtual School and designed some of their online courses.  With Louisiana Virtual School we taught over 6,000 students in different areas of Louisiana both rural and urban.

Four years ago I decided to take a break from teaching while focusing more time on my family and remodeling my home in preparation for our desire to move closer to the beach. Fast forward to the present and after living for two years in Gulf Shores and volunteering in the Baldwin Literacy Center and getting involved with the After the Bell program I decided it was time to get back to what I love to do, teach.  I quickly noticed Gulf Shores City School’s truly innovative and forward-thinking vision that truly cares about the student’s learning and wellbeing.  It is refreshing to see so many outstanding teachers that truly care about the students and their learning.  I am truly excited for the opportunity extended to me to be a part of the Gulf Shores Dolphin Family.  I cannot wait for an amazing 2020-2021 school year!
