The After School Child Care program meets the needs of students and families after school in Gulf Shores City Schools. It is our goal to make sure that each child in our program is safe, secure and supported. Children are greeted by welcoming local site directors and activity leaders that care about the well being and progress of each of the children in their care. The safety of our children is a priority.
Each site ensures that there is a quiet time of at least 30 minutes where children can do homework or read quietly to give our parents more family time when children get home from school.
For more information, please contact your child's school. Check the FORMS tab for any needed documents that need to be completed and registration.

Pre-K (OSR) The Office of School Readiness
First Class: Alabama's Voluntary Pre-K is part of the Office of School Readiness within the Alabama Department and is charged with administering Alabama’s state funded Pre-K program. OSR funds First Class Pre-K classrooms through a competitive grant process and administers the program in a variety of settings that include:
· Public schools
· Private childcare and schools
· Head Start programs
· Community-based programs
· Faith-based programs
· Military programs
OSR was created in the 2000 legislative session. In the first year of operation, OSR funded eight pilot Pre-Kindergarten programs. Currently, OSR funds over 1,000 Pre-K classrooms and supports the professional development of a high quality workforce through education, training, and on-site coaching.
High Quality Pre-K Alabama’s state funded First Class Pre-K program, has been awarded the highest quality rating by the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) for the past twelve years. OSR is dedicated to working with Pre-K programs to ensure that Alabama’s 4-year-olds have access to high quality childhood learning experiences that prepare Alabama children for school success and readiness.
Research shows that children benefit the most from high quality early learning experiences. OSR works with classrooms to promote those high quality experiences in Alabama.

The Gulf Shores Board of Education has a non-resident admission policy for admitting students who are not Gulf Shores residents. The policy requires a tuition payment of $1,500 for the first child and $1,000 for each additional child, as well as academic, behavior, and attendance eligibility requirements. Additionally, admission is based on space (capacity). Tuition must be paid in full prior to August 1, 2020. Please be aware that tuition does NOT include school fees, donations, yearbooks, etc. as these will be collected separately at the school level. Full-time employees of GSCS with non-resident students are subject to the Non-Resident Policy but are eligible for a tuition waiver if their child qualifies. Children of full-time employees enrolled during the 2019-2020 school year as non-resident students do not need to re-apply for the 2020-2021 school year.
STUDENTS APPLYING FOR NON-RESIDENT STATUS CAN REQUEST A TUITION WAIVER BASED ON FINANCIAL HARDSHIP. (See details below)
The application process for non-resident students opens March 1 and closes March 31. Completion of an application does not guarantee acceptance. Notice regarding admission status will be emailed to the address provided on the completed application.
Gulf Shores City Schools offers a Virtual Academy which is open to any qualifying student and is free of charge. If capacity prevents the acceptance of your child into the traditional educational program, you may wish to consider our Virtual Academy. For more information please contact Dr. Susan Nelson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
